There has been no last-minute agreement. At around 10 in the morning, the trial against Dani Alves for the alleged rape of a girl at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona has begun. The former footballer was transferred to the Audiencia de Barcelona around nine-thirty from the Brians prison, where he has been for over a year, to avoid the risk of flight. Once preliminary matters are resolved, Alves will decide whether to testify today or wait until the last day of the trial. Then, the victim will testify behind closed doors. The prosecution is seeking 9 years in prison for the former player, while the plaintiff is seeking 12.

The incident occurred in the restroom of a reserved lounge at the Sutton nightclub on the night of December 30-31, 2022. According to the victim's account, Alves forced her into the restroom and sexually assaulted her with violence. The former footballer, on the other hand, claims they had consensual relations in the restroom, despite being intoxicated and unaware of his actions, as stated in the defense document. However, this is Alves' fifth version of events. Previously, he had stated that he did not know the girl, that they had been together but did not have sex, that she had performed oral sex on him, and finally, that they had consensual sexual relations but he was not intoxicated.

At the Audiencia Nacional, there are over 270 accredited journalists covering the trial from around 70 media outlets, with nearly a third being foreign correspondents. Testimonies are being followed via a screen in a side room, but by court order, journalists cannot publish voice or video clips.
